Episode Notes

The story of Mike Shoreman, how a debilitating illness that stemmed from the Chicken Pox he had as a child took him from his career as a professional paddleboarder and surfer to a person who needed a cane to maintain his balance on dry land. Mike explains what happened in depth. How the illness took him out of the life he knew and how it came to a complete crash so to speak. It was so devastating he had to check into a mental health facility. That was the low point of his life and from there he turned things around.

In a relatively short period of time Mike went from being totally devastated and broken to becoming a speaker, well actually he entered a contest at Speaker Slam. If you haven’t seen his speech at Speaker Slam, you need to watch it here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2R5DYP1ipD0

Mike gave his speech with the goal of uplifting about three out of the 350 in attendance. He did pretty well, so well that he won the contest! Within a week or so from the contest Mike’s speech was being picked up and going viral on sites like The Power of Positivity, A Plus, and Jay Shetty.

In 2020, people have lost businesses, dealt with isolation, suffered mental health issues among other challenges during the whole Covid 19 pandemic. Mike feels that we are all “unbalanced paddleboarders” in a sense and is grateful for the fact that he can bring value and positivity to others.

This episode is loaded with lessons. Overcoming obstacles, having small wins lead to other wins and continuing to make steps in the right direction, surrounding yourself with othe rpositive people, being aware of your situation in life, getting coaches to help through challenges and projects, are some of the main ones Mike brought up.

Eric and I are fascinated with his story and we know you will be too. How a man who was completely broken mentally to now working with people like Jack Canfield and is a National Spokesperson for Paddleboarding in Canada and was inducted into the Hall of Fame for People With Disabilities. It really is remarkable that it happened and in such a very short time period too!
